James J Braddock

(1905 – 1974; “Cinderella Man”)

James J Braddock was an American boxer in the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. He was world heavyweight champion from 1935 to 1937. He won the title as a crass outsider against Max Baer and later lost it to the legendary Joe Louis. His record was 47 wins in 78 fights with 24 losses and 4 draws. James J Braddock was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2001.

Jim J’s nickname “Cinderella Man” reflects his incredible rise from worker and provincial fighter to boxing champion. His grandiose return in 1935 was made into the 2004 Hollywood movie “Cinderella Man” with Russell Crowe and Renée Zellweger.
