Floyd Mayweather Jr was undefeated world champion in five different weight classes. Manny Pacquiao was world champion in eight different weight classes. Mayweather Jr won the fight by unanimous decision (116-112, 116-112, 118-110).

The bout was the most lucrative in professional boxing history. With an initial estimate of 4.4 million purchases, the pay-per-view (PPV) alone set a new revenue record in the United States with $410 million in revenue. The PPV transmission had the highest revenue in history. The figure was later even revised upward to 4.6 million purchases. The fight also reached the highest ticket sales in the history of boxing. The live gate alone brought in $72,198,500. Official tickets cost up to $7,500; tickets close to the ring cost up to $250,000 on the secondary market.
